Double Page Spread
Construction
The first thing I did was add my masthead.
As you can see, I stuck to the same theme
as used for my masthead and titles
throughout my magazine. I used HACKED
regular font, 100 pt in size. This way it
stood out clearly on the page. I stuck to the
colour scheme of red and black, which are
the typical colours for an indie magazine.
The next thing that I did was add the page
number and magazines website in the
bottom right corner of the page.
I used Helvetica Neue Light for the website
link and Helvetica Neue Bold for the page
number – I made the page number bold so
it stood out clearly, so readers would have
no trouble finding certain pages. Both the
website and page number are 24pt in size.
Next I added my main image for my
double page spread – I used a
relevant picture of my band
‘GRAPHIC’.
To add my image I clicked ‘Image’ >
‘Open’ > Selected the image I
wished to use and opened it. I then
cropped the image and dragged it
onto my double page spread where
I resized the image to fit the page.
I added a drop shadow effect by
selecting it from the effects menu
shown in the top right corner of the
photoshop app.
I decided to use a drop shadow
effect as shadows are used
throughout my magazine, so it fits
the overall style.
Finally I included my story. I decided to have an interview between the band, so my story is
strictly question and answer based. I added a different text box per question/answer.
For the questions, I used PT Serif Bold font, 14pt in size – This makes the questions stand out
clearly.
For the answers I used PT Serif Italic font, 12pt in size – I also had the names of whoever is
answering the questions bold to make this clearer to readers.
For the quote shown in the middle of the article I used PT Serif Caption Italic font in a larger
28pt size – this is so it stood of clearly in between the article.
I stuck to serif fonts as this is a typical font type for magazine articles and it looks professional
overall.
