Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Before We Start You are using Slideshare , an E-Lecture Web Site. For your viewing comfort, view the lecture in full screen . Lecture will take around 15 minutes , followed by an exercise, to be submitted by next lesson. Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Distributed Systems Are Complex Complex: Running on many machines & across networks. Clear, detailed technical diagrams: We need to draw to describe their architecture & expected behaviour. Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Required Diagrams For Assignment Sequence Diagram How objects in your application work with or call one another. Class Diagram Static structure of your code. (e.g. attributes, methods) Network Diagram Describes your application when physically deployed. Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Sequence Diagrams e.g. Enrollment of Student for a Seminar 1 2 3 4 5 6 Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Class Diagrams e.g. A Order class in an e-Store Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Network (Architecture) Diagram Perfect for distributed systems. Commonly used to describe computers as well as the connections between them. 1 2 3 4 5 6 E-Book Store Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Network Diagrams: Guidelines For each computer , indicate the operating system, as well as the software applications or servers running on it. For each connection among computers, indicate what protocol is used (e.g. RMI?) 1 2 3 Product Management System Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Examples of Network Diagrams 1 2 For computers in the same physical location , group them together using a dotted circle (e.g. “Office”) Indicate Internet using a “cloud” Customer Registration System Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Today’s Exercise: Cheap Air Exercise 3.1 , found in Chapter 3 of your lab workbook. Problem Statement: Your superior approached you to design the network diagram to link CheapAir ’s Call Centre operations with Headquarters. Submission Date: Start of your next DSCN class Chapter 3: Technical Diagrams
Today’s Exercise: Cheap Air Based on the guideline given to you, also follow closely the “ list of conditions ” (Figure 3-1) given to you with regards to CheapAir . Make assumptions if details are not given (You can use Oracle as a database, or Sun Java Application Server for your server.) Draw the diagram on the blank pages given at the end of Chapter 3; you may also draw a soft copy (using MS Word, etc) and then print it out and put in your lab workbook.
