1) The document proposes a conceptual middleware detector device architecture to address issues around proprietary interfaces, single points of failure, and vendor lock-in. 2) The proposed architecture would include an abstraction layer to standardize detector data formats and prevent changes to one vendor from impacting other systems. 3) This would improve resilience, allow different vendor solutions to work together, and give NZTA more flexibility in procurement and response to non-performing vendors.
