Cluster Cycle 2, Week 6

Identify Need
 By May 2012, at least 88% of all student groups in
  grades 3-5 at Pleasant Run Elementary will score
  65%* or higher on the STAAR Math test. At least
  85% of PK-2 students will meet the passing standard
  on end of the year math assessment. All students
  will make at least one year’s growth, with students
  performing at the highest level maintaining or
  increasing their proficiency level.

 *percentage based on TAKS passing standard from
  previous years. Will be reevaluated when STAAR
  standards are released.
 By June 2012, all students will demonstrate an
  annual learning gain in breaking apart word
  problems and justifying solutions as measured by
  district common assessments and benchmark tests
  aligned to the STAAR test. Students already in the
  upper quarter will maintain their advanced level.
  Students in the middle two quarters will increase by
  at least 10%. Students in the bottom quarter will
  increase by at least 25%.
 By the end of the cluster cycle, ALL students will
  increase their scores on district-wide teacher-made
  pre- to post-tests by at least 20% using strategies to
  dissect and explain information.
 Compare the students in your Focus Group to the
  Criteria Chart.

 How did your students perform last week, adding to

 How do you think the CFA went?
 Watch as we model combining addition and
  subtraction during If You.

 Review scaffolding for student understanding.
 Practice with your Partner:

    Student: make a few mistakes on If You, or on
     explaining how you know using Empties or 5 And

    Teacher: be prepared to scaffold learning for your
     “student”
 Teach If You +/- with your students this week.

 Compare the performance of your Focus Group to the
  Criteria Chart and bring back your observations.

 Next week, we will meet on Monday. I will be out of
  town Tuesday through Thursday. Our Monday
  learning will be adding a Story Problem element to
  the 10 Frame. After that, we will be moving into using
  the Part-Part-Whole mat.
