Entering Text in a Presentation
Key concepts:
• You can add text to the Text Placeholders, Text Boxes,
and Shapes. The Title Text placeholder is represented by
the dotted border.
• When entering text into text placeholders, it is important to
recognise good practice when doing so. This includes:
• Using short, concise phrases
• Using bullet points
• Using numbered lists.

Creating a New Presentation
Steps:
1. Click the FILE tab
2. In the Backstage View, click the New button
3. Choose the Blank presentation option.

1. Create a new Blank Presentation.
2. Click the Title Text placeholder.
3. Type Worldwide Telephony Trading.
4. Click outside the Title Text Placeholder to deselect it.

Saving a New Presentation
Steps:
1. Click the FILE tab
2. In the Backstage view, click the Save button
3. Select Computer to choose the location.
4. Choose a folder under Computer or click Browse.

5. In the Save As dialog that opens, select Local Disk (C:).
6. Double click the ICDL Student Folder and type WTS Presentation in the File
Name box.

Closing a Presentation
Steps:
1. Open Land Tour from the Student Folder.
2. Click the FILE tab
3. Click the Close button
4. You can also click the Close button at the to-right corner of the PowerPoint
Window.

Opening an Existing Presentation
Steps:
1. Click the FILE tab
2. In the Backstage view, click the Open button
3. Select Computer to choose the location.
4. Choose a folder under Computer or click Browse.

5. In the Open dialog that opens, select Local Disk (C:).
6. Double click the ICDL Student Folder and select WORLD01.pptx.

Adding a New Slide
Steps:
• Open WORLD01.pptx from the Student Folder.
• In the HOME tab, click the top part of the New Slide button in the Slides group.
• Click on Slide 1 in the Slides/Outline pane.

Saving a Presentation with a different name
Steps:
1. Click the FILE tab
2. In the Backstage view, click the Save As button
3. Select Computer to choose the location.
4. Choose a folder under Computer or click Browse.

5. In the Save As dialog that opens, select Local Disk (C:).
6. Double click the ICDL Student Folder and type WTS Qtr 1 in the File
Name box.

Saving a Presentation as another File Type
Steps:
1. Open WORLD01.pptx from the Student Folder.
2. Click the FILE tab
3. In the Backstage view, click the Save As button
4. Select Computer to choose the location.
5. Choose a folder under Computer or click Browse.

6. In the Save As dialog that opens, select Documents.
7. Click the Save as type down arrow and select Outline/RTF from the list.

Switching between open Presentations
Steps:
1. Open Meeting5.pptx and Meeting6.pptx from the Student Folder.
2. In the VIEW tab, click the Switch Windows button in the Window group.
3. Select a presentation from the list displayed.

#3:Introduce the students to the lesson by highlighting the lesson objectives using your own words.
#4:Inform the students that in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013, placeholders are boxes with dotted borders that contain content and reside within a slide layout. All built-in slide layouts that come with PowerPoint contain content placeholders.
Emphasize that when creating their presentations, most contents (titles, text, charts and graphic objects) will be contained inside a placeholder.
Explain the concepts as outlined in the slide.
