Introduction
• Currently, most of the existing car parking system are manually managed
and a little inefficient.
• The system heavily relies on human interaction with the physical space and
entity, this leads to wastage of manpower and also parking spaces.
• Automatic car parking system provides pre booking of slots through
messages. which reduces the parking traffics and time wastages for
parking.
• In this parking system whenever the car enters into parking zone, the
system guide them clearly where the free or booked slot is available.
Overview
 A parking reservation system is developed in such a way that users book
their parking slots through short message services (SMS).
 The SMS sent will be processed by microcontroller. It will reply the
confirmation of booking by giving the details of reservation like password
and slot number.
 The password will be used to enter the parking area and valid for a certain
period of time.
Block diagram
Methodology
• Parking sensor to sense the parking area and determine whether a parking
slot is vacant or not.
• Processing unit acts like an intermediate between the sensors and GSM.
All the sensors are connected to the processing unit.
• Message task acts like an interface for the end users to interact with the
system.
Hardware and Software requirements
Hardware requirements
• ARM Controller
• IR Sensors
• Relay & DC Motors
• Keypad & LCD display
• RF Reader
• GSM Modem
Software Requirement
• Kiel vision 4
• Embedded C
Power Supply
• Power supply unit provides regulated 5v power.
• The power supply circuit consists of a bridge rectifier which is then passed
on to the regulator through a filter circuit.
1. ARM Controller
• 32 bit controller
• 64 multi functional pins
• Two I/O ports
• Low power consumption
• Two 32 bit timers
• Two UART for serial communication
2. IR Sensors
• IR Sensors consists of two parts
• IR transmitter
• IR receiver
• IR sensors used for monitoring and displaying the status of parking slots in
LCD.
3. Relay And Dc Motor
• A relay is a simple electromechanical switch made up of an
electromagnet and a set of contacts.
• Relays are switches that open and close circuits electromechanically.
• DC motor is used as gate controller.
• Consists armature in between south and north magnetic poles.
Relay
DC Motor
4. Keypad & LCD Module
• LCD module used for displaying the details of parking. A 16x2 LCD
module and is very commonly used.
• Keypad used for entering the password for the entrance of parking area.
LCD KEYPAD
5. RF Reader
• RFID is a general term that is used to describe a system that transmits a
unique serial number of an object wirelessly, using radio waves.
• The RFID card reader read the RFID tag in range and outputs unique
identification code of the tag at baud rate of 9600.
• The data from RFID reader can be interfaced to be read by
microcontroller or PC.
Features:
• Power Requirement = +5v to +12v DC
• Radio Frequency used = 125KHz
• IR frequency = 38khz
• Read Distance = 3cm
• Detection Range= 2” Inches contact-less
• Valid Tag in Range = Indicated by Buzzer and LED
6.GSM MODEM
• GSM (Global system for mobiles) is a wireless network technology.
• This technology is helps to establish digital cellular communication system.
It is used for transmitting mobile voice and data services.
FEATURES:
- sim300, dual band GSM/GPRS
- Frequency 900 MHz
- Transmission rate 270 kbps
Module Working
• User booking of parking spot through SMS.
• GSM modem gets the message and fed to microcontroller using USART
communication.
• The ARM controller process the requested message and check the
availability of parking slots using IR sensor.
• ARM controller will reply the confirmation of booking by giving the
password and slot number.
• The counter for the reservation time will automatically start for sending
message.
• The password will be used to enter the parking area.
Flowchart
Advantages
• Reduced traffic
• Reduced pollution
• Enhanced User Experience
• Increased Safety
• Decreased Management Costs
Disadvantages
 Initial maintenance cost is high.
 In places where there is no provision of GSM networks, it is
 difficult for communication
APPLICATIONS
The smart parking reservation system can be implemented in :
• Shopping malls
• Containers traffic control at harbors.
• Aircraft parking at apron area.
Future scope
• In future it can be developed as android App.
• Enhance efficient loading activities.
CONCLUSION
As conclusion, the objectives of this project have been achieved. The hassle in
searching for available parking lots has been completely eliminated by reserving the
lots via the SMS system. The security feature of the system is enhanced with the
password requirements upon entrance to the parking lot. The designed system could
be applied everywhere due to its ease of usage and effectiveness.
