SAY
I learn more working than studying
Employers value more my experience than my studies
There are subjects of study which I will never apply in my work
My university doesn´t offer me work opportunities during my career
Employers do not care what electives I take
There are subjects that are at the end of my career, when I have
learned them on the job and add nothing
Few employers accept par time jobs, making it hard to finish my
studies
Sometimes I feel no incentive to finish school, because many
colleagues are successful without having done
Employers are complicated for me to take days to study as the law
states
My salary is low because my dedication is partial and need to take
days to study
THINK
There a lot to improve in my courses!
Why there is not a more fluid conversation between
employers and universities? They should have
common interests and more attention to my needs!
Should I hurry to end my career or should I gain more
experience?
FEEL
Frustrated
Confused
Wasting some time
Making redundant efforts
PROBLEM STATEMENT
F. is using a huge amount of energy and time trying to balance a lot of work (he doesn´t want to leave a good job) with his
last courses, and needs some coordinated help from his employer and university to end his career, and to feel motivated and
convinced that it worth the effort
Empathy Map for F. (Advanced Systems Engineering Student)
INSIGHTS
There is an opportunity for a win-win-win situation, if employers, universities and students interests are better aligned, with a
potential impact in industry productivity (more engineers, less wasted time, more real study plans)
