ROBOTIC PROCESS AUTOMATION
EXTEND YOUR WORKFORCE WITH
ROBOTIC AUGMENTATION
Social media, cloud computing, big data, mobile computing, the Internet of
Things… while all these changes have happened, levels of office automation and
productivity haven’t substantively improved.  Since the 1980’s, productivity in the
office has improved by *3% compared to a 75% productivity increase in factories
over the same period. Encanvas mimics the actions that humans perform at their
desktop to eradicate mundane admin tasks, freeing up to 30% of work day time for
knowledge workers.

Why Robots?
Robotic	Process	Automation	(RPA)	describes	not
just	a	new	flavor	of	technology	but	a	new	approach
to	addressing	office‐centric	data	handling	and
processing	tasks	‐ those	that	previously	required
manual	re‐keying,	spreadsheets,	hard‐copy
documents	and	swivel	chair	workers	to	perform.
There	are	several	fundamental	characteristics	of
this	kind	of	technology‐enabled	solution	that	differ
from	Business	Process	Management	(BPM)	tooling
and	other	traditional	IT	department	dependent
solutions:
The	automation does	not	fundamentally
change	the	operation	of	the	process. Instead	of
a	human	tapping	keys	and	building
spreadsheets,	a	computer	software	application
mimics	the	same	tasks	in	a	similar	way.
Stakeholders	do	not	see	a	fundamental	change
to	their	operating	behaviours.	The	same
process	stages	will	generally	occur.
Training	of	robots	is	generally	performed
using	code‐free	software,	so	it’s	quick	to	do
and	easy	to	adapt.
IT	challenges like	implementing	complex
APIs	are	removed	by	re‐keying	or	robotically
extracting/uploading	data	to	legacy	systems.
Rather	than	being	‘a	technology	platform’
requiring	a	big	upfront	investment	and	lots	of
risks,	‘robots’	are	supplied	asaservice that
can	be	outsourced	in	the	same	way	as
people,	individually	selected	by	departmental
managers	and	billed	monthly	– with	all	the
contractual	flexibility	that	represents.
Why Encanvas for RPA?
While	the	business	case	is	compelling,	the
automation	challenges	for	RPA	are	not	solely	about
the	dexterity	of	tech‐tools. There	are	many
potential	inhibitors	to	change	that	can	derail
projects	that	Encanvas	overcomes:
Cost	of	IT	and	change	can	exceed	the
anticipated	return when	applications	may	be
used	by	only	a	handful	of	users	(or	potentially
just	one). Encanvas	scales	robotics	affordably.
The	time	and	difficulty	of	capturing	and
interpreting	use	case	needs	can	become	an
impenetrable	barrier	to	projects	moving
forward.	Mistakes	made	at	this	stage	can	cause
managers	to	lose	confidence	in	justifying
future	projects. Encanvas	builds	apps	in	real‐
time	due	to	its	codeless	interfaces.
When	it	comes	to	justifying investments	in	IT
and	project	resources, building	a	Returnon
Investment	(RoI)	to	can	be	difficult, if	not
impossible	– when	it’s	not	clear	what’s
needed	to	build	the	solution. Encanvas
codeless	authoring	trains	robots	faster!
Unrivalled performance
Encanvas	is	a	code‐less	platform	with	unrivalled
performance,	security	and	dexterity. It	has	an
extensive	library	of	data	connectors	to	third	party
sources. And	it	offers	both	desktop	and	server
based	robotics	to	align	IT	solutions	to	business
needs	– producing	affordable,	best‐fit‐outcomes.
Scalability that knows no bounds
Encanvas	is	used	for	some	of	the	most	demanding
RPA applications.	Support	millions	of	robots and
still	experience	blistering	response	speeds.
Why Use Encanvas for RPA?
Add
Automation of manual tasks by
mimicking the actions of humans
with software robots
Access to services 24x7 – Robots
don’t need to sleep!
Grow
Understanding of cross‐
functional workflows
Information security
Data accuracy
Meta‐data capture
Governance over activities –
Systematic rules are applied
consistently
Best‐practise innovation
Reduce
Digitalisation project risk
IT spend
Time your workforce spends on
tedious tasks
Time‐to‐value of new solutions
Overheads on IT teams
Remove
Manual data capture, input,
aggregation, cleansing, analysis,
reporting and publishing tasks
IT complexity
Support overheads
Feature Benefit
Mimic humans Remove up to 30% of a typical office workers tasks
through simple augmentation of mundane tasks that
contribute little business value to stakeholders –
increasing workforce well‐being and productivity
24hour operation Higher uptime ‐ Robots don’t need to sleep, they don’t
take a break or go off‐sick
Reduce pressures on IT IT doesn’t have to invest valuable resources in
software developments for the long‐tail of apps that
serve a small community of users
Bring data under IT control Robots are safer for data:  They capture more meta‐
data on process activity and are easier to monitor
than humans.  Also, they make fewer mistakes and
have no innate desire to cause mischief!
Capture process metadata to
finetune processes
Log files enable robots to report in real‐time on
activity performance – important for on‐demand
digital transactions where seconds can matter.
Available on or offpremise,
as a platformor as a service
Encanvas provides the widest range of commercial
options for RPA
An integrated component of
the Encanvas DX platform
For class‐leading user identity management, group
and website administration, business analytics, data
security and applications customization capabilities.

What can a robot do?
These	are	some	of	the	common	robotic	actions
automated	by	Encanvas	RPA:
CAPTURE:
Input data into web and desktop systems
Screen‐scrape
Automate the feed of data from an IoT device
sensor or data source
Input data from a printed screen or document
PROCESS:
Automate click paths to mimic user actions
Cleanse, de‐dupe and normalise data
Sort data
Aggregate data
OUTPUT:
Export to Excel, Word, PowerPoint or
Upload to third party systems
Distribute via automated email workflows (with
escalations based on workflow rules)
What makes a robot start working?
There	are	several ways	you	can	instruct	a	robot	to
start	working. The	most	common	forms	supported
by	Encanvas	are:
Manual instruction (i.e. someone clicks ‘start’)
Scheduled (timed) event
A file arrives into a ‘Watch Folder’
Another robot tells your robot to begin working!
Unparalleled usability
Encanvas	is	really	easy	to	use.	Interfaces	are	clean
and	designed	to	work	in	a	coherent	way	with
common	desktop	applications	to	minimize	user‐
training	overheads.
Tried and tested, and tested again!
Encanvas	is tested	on	a	wide	range	of	browsers
including	Internet	Explorer,	Google	Chrome,
Mozilla	Firefox,	Apple	Safari and	Opera.
Simple deployment of Robots
There	are	many	ways	to	adopt	robots	with
Encanvas. Hire	a	robot	as	a	service,	subscribe	to	an
online	service	or	install	a	private	cloud‐deployed
platform. A	client	installed	component	may	be
required	for	local	data	processing	tasks.
How we compare...
You’ll	be	surprised	how	Encanvas	outperforms	even
the	big	names	in	RPA	with:
Affordability
Performance
Advanced	data	mashup	connectivity
Code‐free	authoring	usability
Enterprise	scalability
