[ENGL 419]
Semester Plan
(50 points; due Monday, October 16)
In a memo, answer the following questions:
1. Site basics.
 What type of site are you planning to create? (a blog, a business
website, something else…?)
 What will be the name of the site?
2. Conversations and users.
 What is the purpose of the site?
 Who will be the main users of the site? Describe them in terms of
demographics, expertise, values, emotions, and the context in which
they’ll be using your site.
 What do you want your site users to do when they come to your site?
 What keywords will your users use to find your site?
 What questions will users be coming to your site to answer?
 Develop one sample persona and one scenario for your site, using pp
29-35 in Redish’s Letting Go of the Words as a guide.
3. Content pages. You’re going to produce 10 “pages” of content for your
site by the end of the semester (note that “pages” can include multimedia as
well as written content). Create a list of these ten pages, including the
following information:
 A title
 The format of the “page” (blog post, recipe, video, etc.)
 A brief description of the page, including its purpose and your
approach.
 Keywords that users would use to get to the site, along with forward
pathways
4. Design and organization. (We’ll work next on designing the site, but for
now just try to imagine the rough feel and design of the site.)
 How will the site generally be laid out? (you can include a rough
sketch, if you like)
 Describe what you want the site to feel like to the user. You can use
already existing sites as comparisons, if that helps.
 Describe a rough color scheme for the site.
 How will you divide the content? (By questions people ask, task, etc.?
See Redish pp 104-113.)
