This document summarizes the key findings of a research project on ethical consumption. The project explored how ethical consumption campaigns in the UK frame consumption as an ethical and political issue rather than just an individual choice. It investigated initiatives around fair trade and global trade justice. The researchers found that ethical consumption provides pathways for ordinary people to engage in collective action and global justice campaigns linked to their everyday consumption practices. Ethical consumption campaigns seek to mobilize existing supporters rather than view consumers as abstract decision-makers. They are most effective when they enable infrastructure and policy changes rather than focusing solely on individual behavior changes.
