Evaluation of Ancillary Tasks Album Cover
I kept to certain conventions such as including the artist and album name. These aspects are necessary. They promote both the artist and the album itself and audiences’ tend to recognise the name of something immediately. The placement of my artist is very important. I deliberately positioned him in such a way that his eyes were not visible. This leads us to question his expression. I used editing software to alter the hue and saturation of the image, creating an unusual, grainy effect.
I used two contradicting text styles. One is bold and simplistic and the other is handwritten and informal. This creates a contrast. I decided to use a plain white background so that the main focus of the image remained on the artist. His dark, navy attire contrast with this. Making him appear quite mysterious. His posture suggests openness and casualness, but his expression (or what we can see of it) contradicts this.
This time, I chose to display the artists eyes but not his mouth. We are still unclear of his expression. His arm is displayed in the top right to contrast with his “missing arms” on the front cover. The hand is also reaching out towards the track listing. This is significant was done purposely. The artist has a thought bubble above his head which displays the name of the band. This creates a cartoony effect.
I used typical conventions such as including tabs on either side which display the name of the artist and the album. If I were to re-edit this image, I would include a barcode and legal information. The track listing contains font contains a variety of sizes and little punctuation. This creates a childish effect. Again, I used the same grainy effect and plain white background.
