Evaluation. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?By Alex Hill
When comparing my magazine with a real existing DJ magazine you notice some similarities in the way that my media product develops and challenges forms and conventions of a real product, it does this by the way it uses some key things such as screamers, puffs, masthead, coverline, main sell and strapline. Also you notice that my magazine and the real DJ mag have sort of a bleeding effect with the way that the colour runs over, Another thing is the mise-en-scene is of a character or characters with text around and running over it. You can see that my media product has pretty much exactly the same genre as the real DJ magazine as it is for teenagers mainly male who are into clubbing and heavy breakbeat music, the denotation of my media product is just a person on some decks, the connotation is that there is a cool DJ on the decks making music with a faded out background to symbolise a dark club. The way that my media product is different is on my double page spread I have challenged forms and conventions by the way I have made the writing on the page mostly down the middle and more free, rather than using columns or grids like most DJ magazines might use, I have done this because I think that using columns makes the reader feel bored but if you vary the writing around it makes the reader want to read on, and it shows being rebellious and not following the rules and teenagers would like that

Contents. The way I have set my contents page out is I have the title at the top and at the corner of the title I have put a picture of my front cover their, I have done this because in my research into media products I found a DJ magazine which has done this and I liked the idea of it. Also one thing that I have done to challenged the forms and conventions of a real media product is in the picture of my researched product you see that my media product has a similar lay out to it, I have done this because I like the idea of the text not all being compact together because I think this would bore my audience and they would want more of a fun layout, another thing I have done is below the contents title I have introduced my magazine to give the readers a better understanding of it.
Double page spread. For my double page spread I have set it out like a real magazine, in my research I found a double page spread which is of a sort of a similar layout to mine, I have used things such as slang when Durty Beatz is being interviewed he uses such words as “ennit” and “sik” I have used these sort of words because my audience understands this slang and uses it in everyday life. Another thing I have done which I think is quite important is in the bottom left corners of both the pages I have put the page number and the date which is using the same conventions as a real magazine would have.
