Question 7
  Laura Hinds
Prelim Task
• The prelim task helped us develop:
• Our understanding of various shots, and
  the advantages of varying them
• Our editing techniques, we learned so that
we could apply them to our main task
• The importance of scheduling filming, so all
shots can be acquired easily and on time
• Making sufficient time for editing
Issues with prelim task
• Continuity issues with paper (0:11-0:14)
• Transitions were jumpy with sound (0:25-
  0:26)
• Missed cutting off sound (0:12)
• Poor titles/Lack of titles (0:29-0:38)- The
titles were simple and not to a very good
  standard
Improvements
• No continuity issues were encountered
• No jumpy sound transitions, as all original
  sound was removed and
  soundtracks/effects were added where
  necessary
• Titles were used in my main task to their
full potential, as I added a lot more titles in
different places and varied them slightly
Groups
• Instead of working in a pair, as in the prelim task, I
chose to work on my own in the main task

• I felt this worked better as it meant all the
responsibility to create the piece was mine

• There was no problem with thinking of ideas and
making decisions as I was able to ask any members of
the class if I had any difficulties in creative decisions

• I was allowed to work freely, without limitations
working in a group may cause. For example: the
    absence of a group member
Research and Planning
• Research and planning was much more important in a longer film, for the
    main task

• I had to do more research into target audiences so I knew what would be
best, and more popular, to involve in my media product

• I did research into thrillers and opening sequences, so I knew the
conventions and what is expected/effective to be present in a thriller
    opening sequence

• Planning allows development of conventions and ideas, so not only is the film
likeable as it includes conventions, those conventions are developed into
more interesting ideas through the planning process

• I found that research and planning is essential to make the best, and most
popular/likeable, content for the thriller genre
If I were to do it again
• I would organise filming times better, so
that it is all done on the same day, and so
that I am not missing any planned shots
  when I edit
• Leave myself more time for editing
• Add a larger variety of shots, improving the
  aesthetics of the film
• Possibly add more dialogue
