Evaporation is the vaporization of a liquid below its boiling point, where no boiling occurs. The rate of evaporation depends on four main factors: the temperature, the surface area of the liquid, the humidity of the surrounding air, and wind speed, with higher temperatures, greater surface areas, lower humidity, and higher winds all serving to increase the rate of evaporation.
