All About Brain Based Learning
Our brains are suffused with a vast number of interdependent networks. We process all
incoming information through those networks, and any information already stored influences
how and what we learn. Our brain is like the CPU of human body. It is believed that we can
make learning more productive by using brain based learning. Brain based learning is a set of
teaching methods, techniques, programs and designs that are based according to researches,
facts and figures on how our brain learns and processes information. These include things like
multiple intelligence, how learning pattern differs as an individual grows, how different
individuals process the same information differently, and reactions of brain in different situations
emotionally, socially and logically. Some scientists feel that there are fundamental differences
between learning and education. They insist that brainbased research on learning isn’t the
same as research done on education theory.

This pattern of teaching follows the belief that if the science of learning is understood and
followed, than learning and be accelerated and improved. Instead of following traditional
educational practices where single learning pattern is followed throughout the school time and
only academic grades measure a child’s ability to perform and all brains are considered equal,
new methods are invented based on researches. For example, it was commonly believed that
intelligence is a fixed characteristic that remains largely unchanged throughout a person’s life.
However, recent discoveries in cognitive science have revealed that the human brain physically

changes when it learns, and that after practicing certain skills it becomes increasingly easier to
continue learning and improving those skills.

Being acknowledged by these new discoveries, educator can always structure and redesign
their academic techniques and programs in classrooms.

During the early elementary years, the child develops motor skills, visualmotor coordination,
reasoning, language, social understanding and memory. As learning is consolidated into neural
networks, concepts combine into meaningful units that are available for later use. An ability to
generalize and abstract begins at this stage and continues into adulthood. Also during this time,
the child learns about perspectivetaking and social interaction. The ability to understand one’s
social place is crucial for the development of appropriate relationships with other people.
A study reflecting the effect of diet and stress on human learning system has helped educators
in various ways. It is widely recognized now that environment affects learning a lot. The
environment can increase ability or it can lower it. A child with average ability in an enriched
environment may well accomplish more than a bright child in an impoverished environment.
Learning situations that are low stress prone favor reflection and analytic thinking.

Given the breadth and diversity of related scientific findings, brainbased learning may take a
wide variety of forms from school to school or teacher to teacher. For example, we at IPS
Academy try to provide students with an environment that’s inspired by engaging learning
sessions and stress free surrounding. By properly calculated lecture timings, not too long
neither short, regular physical activities, indulging hobbies, and providing comfortable
surrounding with perfectly welllit study areas; we reflect conditions that facilitate learning.
