Everything
 Governors
should know
  about ICT
but might be
 'afraid' to
     ask
I have won my spurs as a governor in 3 situations….
Including now in a primary school in special
measures about to become an Academy
Everything governors should know about ICT but are 'afraid' to ask
The purpose of having a governing body is to:
help the school to set high standards by planning
for the school's future and setting targets for
    school improvement
keep the pressure up on school improvement
be a critical friend to the school, offering support
    and advice
help the school respond to the needs of parents and
the community
make the school accountable to the public for
    what it does
work with the school on planning, developing policies
and keeping the school under review
exercise its responsibilities and powers in
partnership with the headteacher and staff
not intervene in the day-to-day management of the
school unless there are weaknesses in the
school, when it then has a duty to take action.

? What happens if we get it wrong?
? Must the school have a website?

To provide parents with the information they need, maintained
schools, academies and free schools are required to publish online
information on:

                          Aren’t we spending
                          too much on ICT? ?

       iPads like

      IS THE

    QUESTION! !
? How good is our ICT provision?

? Is there an ICT Curriculum at the
    moment?
? For all the attention it gets, why
doesn’t ICT feature in Ofsted reports?
"Often we do not have time to look at a subject in depth. This
tends not to happen in the core subjects, but it certainly happens
in subjects such as ICT and music,” said David Brown, HMI and
national advisor for ICT at Ofsted

It sometimes does… but you have to be extraordinary to make it happen!

ICT is used effectively as a tool for learning.
For example, in a Year 6 lesson, pupils
refined the language used in their blogging
activities to help them understand how it
could be used in more formal writing.

                 Provision for ICT is
          excellent and the virtual learning
     environment strongly supports all members
                       of the
                academy community.
? What’s the classroom impact of ICT?
?
Professor David Hargreaves
1. What is the anticipated impact on the educational
experience and achievement of the pupils?
2. Have the CPD ramifications of this decision been
   considered, costed and planned for?
3. What research have you done in support of that
   decision?
4. Is that the best value for money and how do you
   know?
5. If we have that much resource available, why is this
the best way to spend it?
6. How will we know what the impact is?
7. What do our pupils need to study in the ICT/
   Computer Studies mix?
Thanks to Dughall McCormick for inspiration
?

    What’s your question,
    and shouldn’t you be
              asking it…?
