language assessment
Portfolio a collection of work over time according to pre-determined specifications
Task-based tasks designed to get learners to produce something re a problem-solving
Production activity in a specific context
Survey designed to elicit learner opinions and provide opportunities for self-
assessment, evaluation of programmes etc
‘Quiz’ / review short class-based ‘snapshots’ for the learner and the teacher for quick,
immediate feedback on learning of recent classroom input
Progress designed to determine learner progress at critical points in the programme
reflecting the programme intended LOs up to this point or for the last period
Achievement designed to measure a student’s achievement against specified criteria aligned
to the programme learning outcomes
Proficiency a snapshot of language competence at the time of taking the assessment
linked to levels of competence as defined by the test type
