Introduction:
Jira is a family of products built to help all types of teams manage their work. Jira offers
several products and deployment options that are purpose-built for Software, IT,
Business, Ops teams, and more.
Products and apps built on top of the Jira platform help teams plan, assign, track, report
and manage work. The Jira platform brings teams together for everything from agile
software development and customer support to managing shopping lists and family
chores.
Jira Software is built for every member of your software team to plan, track, and release
great software.
With the help of Jira software, you can now:
1. Create user stories and issues, plan sprints, and distribute tasks across your
software team.
2. Prioritize and discuss your team’s work in full context with complete visibility.
3. Ship with confidence and sanity knowing the information you have is always up-
to-date.
4. Improve team performance based on real-time, visual data that your team can
put to use.
5. Connect your team's work to your product roadmap.
6. Ship faster and more reliably by building smarter plans for your team and for your
organization.
7. Gain peace of mind with enterprise-grade solutions tailor-made to secure and
scale Jira Software across your entire organization.

Getting started with Jira Software:
Create an account in Jira Software:
1. Visit the page atlassian.com/software/jira
2. Click Get it free
Select a second product you want to use with Jira Software

Set up Jira
Click in the field “I am ___ Jira” and select whether you are new to Jira or experienced
with Jira.
Create dashboard
To track the workflow and the changes in tasks, create a dashboard.

To create a dashboard
1. Click dashboard from the menu bar.
2. Click create a dashboard.
3. Enter the name of the project in the name field.
4. Enter in the description field your dashboard type.
5. Select access as per your choice, private public or only you.
6. Click save
How to use Jira:
There are 6 main steps that you can follow to start using Jira software as a pro in no
time.
1. Choose a classic template
Project templates help teams get up and running quickly with default settings and
features for a variety of use cases. In Jira Software Cloud, there are two types of project
templates: classic and next-gen.

Classic templates include the advanced customization and flexibility that Jira Software
was originally built for. Next-gen templates showcase the reimagined Jira Software
experience with simplified configuration and customization options.
Both types of templates are available for scrum, kanban, and bug tracking
methodologies. Select any of the templates by clicking on them.
2. Create project
1. Click projects from the menu and select create project from the dropdown list.
or
2. Select Create project from the projects window.
3. Enter a name for the project and a key and click create.

3. Invite your team
To get your team involved, start by adding each team member to your Jira site:
1. In the project menu on the left, select Project settings.
2. Select People.
3. In the top-right corner, select Add people.
4. Search for your team member's email address, and select Add.
4. Setup your columns
To set up board columns:

1. Navigate to your team's board by selecting Active sprints (for Scrum projects) or
Kanban board (for Kanban projects) in the project menu on the left.
2. Select more (•••) > Board settings in the top-right corner.
3. Select Columns.
4. Select Add column to add a column for each step in your team's process.
For example, if work needs to pass through a QA step before it's considered to be
complete, you could add a column called "QA" and put it before Done.
5. Create an issue
Issues are the building blocks of your Jira Software project. An issue can represent a
story, epic, bug, feature to be built, or any other task in your project.
To create an issue anywhere in Jira:
1. Click Create ( ).
2. Type a Summary for the issue.
3. Complete all required fields and any other fields that you want as shown in How
to create an issue.
 Optional: To change which fields appear when you create another issue, click
Configure Fields and select and deselect the fields you want. When you next
create an issue, the selected fields will be displayed.
 Optional: To create other issues with the same Project and Issue Type, select
the Create another checkbox. Depending on your configuration and issue
creation history, some fields may be pre-populated. Review these before
creating the new issue.
4. When you're finished, click Create.
6. Move work forward
Now you are ready to collaborate and track work together. If you're in a Scrum project,
you'll need to create and start a sprint to begin tracking work. If you're in a Kanban
project, you can start tracking work on the board. To track work items, move an issue
from one column to another as it progresses through your team's workflow.

How To Create An Issue
To create an issue:
1. Click create on the main menu.
2. Enter the project name.
3. Enter the issue type.
Issue types can be a bug, an epic, story, task, or a subtask.
Bug: A problem or error
Epic: A big user story that needs to be broken down.
Story: Functionality or feature expressed as a user goal
Task: A small distinct piece of work

Sub task: A small piece of work that is part of a larger task
4. Enter the summary
5. Attach any documents supporting the issue created.
6. Write a description about the issue in the description box.

7. Select how the linked issues are affected from the dropdown list of possibilities
(for example: blocks, is block by…etc).
8. Enter the issues linked to the issue you are creating in the issue field.

9. Enter the issue linked to the issue you have created
10.Enter the assignee’s name
11.Select the priority of the issue
12.Enter a label name for the issue
13.Click create.
You will be notified that an issue has been created and you also check the issues
created by clicking on Issues on the tool bar from left hand side.
