Since 1996, Boston's education system has seen significant improvements, with high school mathematics passing rates rising from under 25% to 84%. The number of K-8 schools has increased from 3 to 28, and the graduation rate has risen from 57.9% in 2007 to a record 65.9%. Additionally, achievement gaps are closing, with notable proficiency gains among African American and Hispanic students, and the availability of arts and music programs has greatly expanded.
