Interview an administrator or a faculty member. Get their ideas/views of the curriculum. Write the differences on both sides and the similarities at the center and then write your personal insights. Based from my interview on Miss Melojane A. Sarabia last August 24, 2016; 5:02 P.M. Traditional Curriculum in terms of teaching- learning process: subject-centered spoon-feeding knowledge comes mainly from the teacher the teacher is knowledgeable on his/her lesson in terms of preparing the instruction less or no preparation at all since topics are already provided on textbooks mostly performed through lecture negative side learners are passive Progressive Curriculum in terms of teaching- learning process: learner centered students participate in the process teachers are facilitators of learning it is an active process in terms of instruction preparation teachers need to prepare interactive activities activities must suit to the multiple intelligences of the learners negative side time-consuming possibility of having time shortage. My Personal Insights: There are many ideas regarding the curriculum. Two of which who stand firm are the Traditional Curriculum and Progressive Curriculum. Both are alike in some aspects but differ on the other. However, in today’s generation, it would be more effective to use the progressive curriculum since it caters the new needs of the society unlike the traditional one who remained obsolete from change.

Each curriculum has own specific functions to the school. Having more curricula applied in a school will surely make teaching and learning more effective.

- 5. My Analysis 1. Why do we need to consider the traditional and progressive of view of curriculum? Although we can say that the progressivist point of view is more applicable in today’s generation, this does not mean that the traditional point of view is no more needed. That’s why, we need to consider both when it comes to curriculum. In this way, we will be able to understand the full extent of the curriculum. 2. How do the different educational philosophies relate to the curriculum in the schools you visited? Cite examples / situations. All the school I visited aimed to educate the rational person or to cultivate the intellect. This is the focus of Perennialism. However, Essentialism is more shown in the Elementary school curriculum. This is due to the fact that teachers need to go back to the basics since their learners still don’t have prior knowledge. Meanwhile, Progressivism and Re-constructivism is more shown in High School and College institutions since these two philosophies focused on the changes in society. 3. Why is there a need to revise the curriculum from time to time? Societies change from time to time. New needs and problems will arise along the way. This is the main reason why there is a need to revise the curriculum. In making a curriculum, it should adhere to the needs of the society. If the curriculum is not changed, then it will become stagnant and ineffective to the society who supposedly will benefit from the products of the curriculum.
- 6. My Reflections/My Insights A curriculum is very important to a school. It is somewhat the soul of the school because without it, the school cannot function or even can’t exist. Even though there are many views aboutthe curriculum, I believe that all of them are important. All of them must be considered to fully understand the curriculum. It is also worthy to mention thatthe curriculum adheresto the needs of the learners and the society. Therefore, curriculum should be checked and revised from time to time since societal changes are constant.
