- 2. Plan Your Essays! Don’t go into an essay blind. It can be easy to get confused and distracted if you don’t plan it out. Make sure to make a detailed outline so you can stay on topic and plan transitions so your essay flows. L. Valenzuela’Mease
- 3. DO NOT USE CONTRACTIONS! A Contraction is the use of an apostrophe to combine words that one could write in full. The use of contractions immediately makes the essay seem informal. College-level writing requires a formal voice which means no contractions! EXAMPLES: EXAMPLE: It’s It is DO NOT: I wouldn’t do something that wasn’t Don’t Do not wasn’t right because that’s something Wasn’t Was not that I shouldn’t do. - 4. Schedule your time! If you know you have limited time, set a goal to complete a certain amount of your assignment. Do one part at a time as to not overexert yourself.
