Assessment
Assessment is the most popular way to get information about student’s
level in the class, and their learning process, in addition, it gives students
feedback about themselves and their weakness area (Hanna & Dettmer,
2004).
Types of
Assessments

Assessment
Formative
Assessment
Formative assessment refers to tests are applied
during the learning process daily or weekly, where
the teacher can monitor student’s learning and
give them feedback to improve their learning for
the final assessment such as homework tasks, class
activities, small quizzes and meeting between the
student and the teacher (Kyriacou, 2007).
Summative assessments are an exam that occur at
the end of the semester or after the curriculum is
accomplished such as example like mid-term
exam, final project and final paper (Kyriacou,
2007).

Formative assessments Summative assessments
Daily, weekly and biweekly quizzes assess
student progress in following areas such as:
vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and
grammar. These quizzes are centrally
developed and provided to the learners
according to their performances in the
formative assessments. The learners get
ongoing feedback.
The final assessment measures whether
students have achieved the course learning
outcomes in the English language skills
which are vocabulary, grammar, reading,
writing, speaking and listening.
