Form and
Convention
Evidence Explanation
intro and summary One of the most common codes and conventions
for a film review page is for the first paragraph to
contain a short summary of the film, I think this is
so the readers understand what the film is about to
decide whether or not to read the review for it. I
have put this in my film review page but I called it
‘the low down’ the reason for this is because it a
slang term for information and as my target
audience is teenagers I felt they would be more
intrigued by that and may read it more.
Tag line A review article will often begin with a quote pulled
out from the film as a brief introduction into the film
in order to put in the audience. Here I challenge
the forms and conventions of film review pages
and the reason for this is because I decided to put
my opinion as a critique as the tagline instead. I
believe that my opinion may be more intriguing to
the customers more than a quote. It also allows
my film review to show differentiation from other
review pages from existing film magazines.
Positive/Negative It is also conventional for a film review page to
include positive aspects of the film which is often
to create a personal opinion which often focuses
on points such as the story, mise-en-scene,
special effects, music which is then often followed
by bad aspects of the film. Throughout the article I
decided to have an angle which was to focus on
the themes addressed and the fact it was the
‘filmmakers’ first film, so having said this I made
the positive and negative points reflect the
filmmakers skills and discussed the
cinematography.
Ratings Here you can see I have conformed to
forms and conventions by showing the
ratings of the film, a typical film review code
and convention which is normally used in a
film poster as part of the promotional
campaign.
Still shot Another form and convention I used was to
use still shots as the articles images, the
reason for this is because it gives the
readers an exclusive insight of the film and
slight hints of the action. However, I also
challenge this form and convention as
evidently the main image I have actually
used an image from a photoshoot taken
place as a promotional campaign, the
reason I done this is because I believe it
makes the article look more professional.
Release date Film title and Year of Release - Having the
film title and the year of release is normally
in the top left corner, this is normally where
they add details about the film such as the
genre of the film, main actors and director.

Form and
Convention
Evidence Explanation
Credit Block A common form and convention of a film
poster is a credit block, I have used this to be
able to include all the information regarding
the film such as the production company
myself and my group created, director, script
writer and the main actors. I also included an
image of the logo of our production company
so the audience could easily identify it.
Film title One of the most common conventions of a film
poster is to include the film title, I was able to
use the same font in both the review page and
short film.
Tag line Underneath the title, there is normally always
a tag line as you can see here I have put “one
bench, lots of drama” as a way to build
hysteria about the film and to get the audience
interested. I used the form and convention to
be able to relate to the films target audience
by using lots of drama will probably attract the
younger audience.
Quote Here you can see I have used a quote from
the film review page I created, this way I able
to demonstrate my knowledge in synergy and
how important it is to work together with
different media platforms, I actually used the
tagline from the review page as it was short
and interesting.
Image I followed the forms and conventions
concerning the image within the film, I decided
to use an image from a photos hoot rather than
an image from the film as it makes it look very
professional and sleek, however, I have
challenged the code and convention because I
made the lead character Molly stand out and
slightly blurred the rest of the characters as a
way to focus the audience on her emotion.
Age
Certificate
One of the most important forms and
conventions on a film poster is the age
certificate, the reason for this is because it
helps attract the target audience for example, if
someone below the age of 12 went to see it
they won't be allowed in or if someone older
though it was in more of an older age
classification then may be disappointed. So,
this was crucial to make sure it was targeted at
the right audience.
