What is a fossil? 
• Fossil—any remains or evidence of living things of the past
What do fossils tell us? 
• Fossils provide clues about Earth’s past: 
• The type of environment, animals, 
plants, etc
How do fossils form? 
• Most organisms won’t become fossils they decay!
How do fossils form? 
• Fossils are more likely to form: 
• When it’s buried quickly 
• When it’s a hard fossil (teeth, shells, etc)
