Example 1 - Rock Main image using a medium shot – Brendon Urie, main singer of Panic!AtThe Disco Masthead – Covering all three top thirds of the page, in a playful ‘loud’ slightly covered by the main image Barcode -placed in bottom left corner to be scanned featuring the issue information, price and date Skyline/banner/selling line – what is shown can help boost sells of the magazine as people may be interested in seeing this Main cover line also featuring strapline “Get me MeteWentz on the phone!” – entices the audience to read the rest of the magazine. Example 3 – EDM/Techno Masthead – only covering half of the top left third in a futuristic style font Main image – featuring Don Diablo EDM world magazine has the slogan ‘the heart of Electronic Dance Music’ however this is not featured on every front page There is no barcode on this front cover which means there is most likely one featured on the back cover instead, but it still has the issue number in the top right corner Main cover line – entices the audience to read the rest of the magazine. Usually more prominent than the other cover lines and is in relation to the cover star Another cover line More cover lines featured down the sides of the page away from the main image
- 5. Overall Analysis From this research into music magazine front covers I have learnt a lot of things. Depending on genre the overall look of the magazine alters a lot.This is done mainly through the colours that have been used, but also through the positioning of the main images and over features such as the cover lines. Not all front covers feature the barcodes, skylines or puffs, but I have decided that when making my product I will include all of these features as I feel they’re used quite often and therefore I will be sticking to conventions of a music magazine front cover which will aid me in creating a realistic magazine.The classical magazine looks much more relaxed with calm colours andAimard featured in a relaxed suit looking away from the camera. This fits the calm and relaxing feel of classical music. In comparison to the rock it is very different.The rock magazine’s front cover can be considered very ‘in your face’ with bright colours on a very plain back ground to make it stand out further. It also features a lot more on a page which can make it seem more exciting and make it appeal more to its audience.This is similar to the EDM magazine, however it has slightly less going on and has a futuristic look which ties in with its music genre.
