Altitude Sickness Reaction to lower amounts of oxygen at high altitudes. Air has a lower density than at sea level Amount of oxygen per molecules per breath is lowered about 40 % Body makes more red blood cells to carry more oxygen Water evaporates faster. Can lead to dehydration. The pressure in the pulmonary arteries are increases. It forces blood into lungs

Loss of appetite Distorted vision Extreme stress on lungs, heart, and arteries (built up fluid in lungs and brain) Body rapidly produces more enzymes
Prevention Don’t fly or drive to altitude. Walk Climb high and sleep low If you have symptoms don’t continue until symptoms are gone Eat a high crab diet Avoid tobacco and other depressants
