Outer Space Lauren Curran
Definition of Outer Space Outer space is the area between airspace and physical areas. It is the empty regions of the universe outside the atmospheres.
Body Systems Affected in Outer Space Respiratory - There is very little amounts of oxygen in space so oxygen supplements are needed for survival. Due to the lack high air pressure, air is also pushed out of the lungs. Immune While in space, the body produces fewer white and red blood cells. Immune system weakens. Cardiovascular - Because there is less oxygen, the body does not receive an adequate amount to keep it functioning.
Special Clothing and Equipment Space suits- Space suits provide the oxygen for a person in space. The suits also prevent the body from swelling. The suit keeps a human’s body fluids in a liquid state. Shelter- People on space need to be protected from the harsh conditions in space. Space shuttles are used to protect them.
Conditions in Outer Space No air pressure- Humans who are unprotected will die of suffocation due to the high air pressure. Extreme temperatures- Temperatures can range from extremely cold, hundreds of degrees below freezing, to many hundreds of degrees above.
