GISMAP developed tools to apply land evaluation methods to assess food production potential. Their approach combines global agro-ecological zoning (GAEZ) and land suitability analysis (LSA) to leverage their respective strengths. For a case study in Iraq, they integrated climate, soil, topography and other data to model potential yields and suitability ratings for major crops at a high resolution. Their workflow uses matching tables to rate environmental parameters for each crop and estimate yield reductions, outputting suitability maps to inform land use planning.
