This document discusses techniques for optimizing the behavior of nonlinear dynamical systems using cell mapping. Specifically, it addresses maximizing the size of domains of attraction in parametrized dynamical systems. Cell mapping is used to estimate domain sizes for different parameter values. Genetic algorithms, a stochastic approximation algorithm, and neural network methods are evaluated for optimizing this size function to determine optimal parameter values. The performance of the methods is illustrated using applications like the van der Pol equation.
