The blob fish is a deep sea fish found off the coast of southeastern Australia at depths of around 800 meters. It has no muscles and a jelly-like consistency less dense than sea water, giving it a blob-like appearance and allowing it to float above the ocean floor without moving much. Its diet consists of animals like sea urchins and mollusks, though it eats rarely. Overfishing has threatened the blob fish population, but protections from the UN have helped prevent its extinction so far.
