This document provides information for Session 2 of a university course on materials design. The session focuses on understanding the importance of basic principles about the role of materials. Students will analyze an assigned text based on one of the principles about the role of materials. They will work in groups to discuss how their assigned book demonstrates the role of materials. They must determine if the book has the characteristics explained in the role and how the role is shown in the text. Students will then present their analysis in writing, including the book details and photocopies to support their assessment.
