Guide to exporting and storing
digital photographs.
SD card.
An SD card is a small thin storage device used in digital cameras mostly but,
can be used in other devices to like game consoles. An example would be the
Nintendo 3 and 2ds. They can hold a lot of storage for their size . They are
small and easy to move around but can also get quite lossed easily.
You would use an SD card in your digital camera to store images and videos
but your would also use them on your phones, tablets and some game
consoles to boost their storage.
Memory stick.
Memory sticks or USBs are a small and usually thin device used for storing
and transferring data and files on digital devices. Like SD cards, they can
hold a lot of storage for their size. They also come in different storage sizes
which would be used depending on the work you do. if you work with
videos a lot, you would want a bigger storage memory stick as videos take
up a lot of storage space.
You would use a memory stick on your computer or tablet to transfer things
from one device to the other like school work to take home and finish.
External hard drive.
External hard drives are usually small devices used for storing and
transferring things from one device to another. They can hold a lot of
storage space and are easy to move around. They require a cable to connect
to the what ever device you need to clear storage space or transfer files
between computers.
You would use external hard drives to boost storage on your device and also
if your working on different macs and you want to send your work to the
other mac you can.
Transferring images from digital
cameras SD cards to computers.
• When you want to transfer digital images from
your digital camera’s SD card to a computer,
you can either insert your SD card into your
computer and move the files of it that way or
use a transfer cable which is usually sold
separately to put stuff on and from your
computer or SD card. You then need to eject it
before you remove it to prevent it from
getting corrupted.
Transferring things from a computer to
a memory stick.
• transferring things from a computer to a
memory stick is very easy. All you do is insert
the USB into the USB socket and drag the files
you want to send other to the USB icon and
then eject it before removing it from the
computer to avoid the USB from getting
corrupted.
Jpeg.
• Jpeg files are a format of compressing image
files. Jpegs are files that use use when ever
your trying to save images. Its important you
save the images as Jpegs as other wise some
applications wont let you put the images on it
if it doesn’t have the Jpeg file format.
• You would use Jpeg files for images when your
store them on your digital device.
Raw.
• Raw is basically unprocessed or ‘raw’ data.
Raw image files haven't been processed so,
have minimal data that has actually been
processed. You would probably use Raw files
when making a film or video as it would help
to get an idea of what the finished product
will look like and if you wan to choose a
different shot or location.
How to correctly save work.
• In order to correctly save your work, you need to
organize your saved photos and files so that they
are easy for you to find which would make school
life a lit more easier.
• You also need to give your folders correct names
so your know which one contains the work from
which ever unit you are currently doing. If you
don’t, it will take you for ever to finally find your
work.
• Look at the picture in the back ground for an
example.
