How to choose the course
after 12th science
INDUS MODULE WE ARE GOING TO LEARN ABOUT THE IDEAS ABOUT CHOOSING A
CAREER AFTER SCIENCE 12TH STREAM
What are the types of jobs in science
stream
 According to my experience there are three types of jobs available in science
str
 First one is scientist
 Second one is technology/technician.
 Third one is engineers or mechanics
What is the job of a scientist
 scientist is a professional who conducts and gathers research to further
knowledge in a particular area. Scientists may make hypotheses, test them
through various means such as statistics and data and formulate conclusions
based on the evidence.
 Scientist is a person who has vast knowledge about a particular subject or
his/her field. And can critically think about the subject and give evidence or
research or some theoretical guidance about a particular phenomenon.
 Scientist critically think and give suggestions or improve old research
concepts and also think about the applications of science in real life
Some examples of scientist careers
 It starts majorly with B.Sc with some
exceptions eg (bsc MIT)
 Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Astronomy,
Geology,
What is the role of a technician or
technologist
 TECHNICIAN. A person employed to look after technical equipment or do practical
work in a laboratory. Eg. Electrician. Lab technician
 TECHNOLOGIST. Technologist is a professional trained in certain aspects of
development and implementation of a respective area of technology
 A technician does technical stuff, a technologist does technological stuff
 A technician can do is course either a certificate course or diploma course or a bachelor
course
 A TECHNOLOGIST should at least should completed a bachelor of science course BSc
course
Some examples of courses and jobs of
being a technician
 Diploma in ECG Technology.
 Diploma in Medical Imaging Technology.
 Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
 Diploma in Radiography Technology.
 Diploma in Cardiovascular Technology.
 Diploma in Medical Laboratory Assistant.
Who is a mechanic or mechanical
assistant
 Person who repairs and maintains machinery, motors, etc
 They are mostly service oriented personals with
knowledge about machinery faults and errors and
technical expertise in reparing it.
Who is known as an engineer
 engineer is a person who uses scientific knowledge
to design, construct, and maintain engines and
machines or structures such as roads, railways, and
bridges.
 Anything in general a person who can build
anything and everything based on the principles of
science and technical uses
Some examples of engineering courses
 Chemical engineer, civil engineer, electrical engineer, sound engineer.
 Electrical engineer
 Mechanical Engineer
 Aerospace Engineer
 Industrial Engineer
 Biomedical Engineer
 Agricultural engineer
 Computer Engineer
 Automotive Engineer
What are the types of jobs in science
stream
 According to my experience there are three types of jobs
available in science str
 First one is scientist
 Second one is technology/technician.
 Third one is engineers or mechanics
How should I choose my favourite course
 Most of the people choose the course by their hobby and interest and their life
incident
 But some students have a preferred goal in in life
 Some students have already decided what course to choose like some students
like mathematics they choose bsc in mathematics
 But some students are interested but you don’t know what to choose ,they are lost
If you are science student
 You have to know what discipline so you have chosen
 Pcmb students physics chemistry mathematics and biology students and eligible
for all the courses
 PCMC students are eligible for computer or mechanical or or other courses that
does not require basic foundation
 Same applies to pcme pcms and home science students
If you are choosing your career by choice
or interest or hobby
 First note on what your interested it
 Write the few points about it in your notebook
 Search if there is any similar courses
 Find the nearest college or best college and compare all the courses to you are liking
and check whether the course and the points of written in your notes matches it
 For example
 I want to become a researcher and the scientist, I want to study biology and want to
give prognosis in disease
 I will search for the nearest and best college and check the courses which I want to
study
If you are choosing your career by choice
or interest or hobby
 There are some colleges by the disciplines
 Like if you are going to become scientist or a researcher in medical field
 There is a science and research colleges and check whether your field matches
with their courses available In their college.
 If you want to work in hospital but don’t want to become a doctor but as an
healthcare professional you can search you for any ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCE type
colleges
 If you want to work as a technician you can choose b.tech courses
 again compare the points of your liking with those courses
Suppose if I choose a wrong subject what
to do
 Choosing the wrong career of your interest will not do anything harmful
 But choosing a career forcefully or with parental pressure will do harm.
 Due to lack of interest you cannot study and also work
 Suppose if you choose wrong course according to interest
 Example choosing BSc MLT instead of choosing b.sc biomedical science
 Don’t worry you have choice in masters to change your subject in a specialised area
 You can choose any subject you want in the specialised area you like to choose.
For students those who have watch this
video if they are 10 standard
 Students remember that all the courses need at least specific criteria to be enrold
in college
 There are some competitive exam before joining your favourite courses
 To become a doctor any type of doctor you need NEET exam cleared
 If you want to become an engineer you need JEE entrance exam
 For most of the enrolling or competitive careers in science you need CET exam
DISCLAIMER
 Points which I have mentioned from my Own
speculation Which might varry from person to
person
 Ask your professor for guidance And thoughts
 If you have any doubt feel free to ask and queries
