Using Channels in Odoo

INTRODUCTION
❖ In any business organization, having an effective platform for communication will benefit you in
many ways. You can build a healthy environment in your company by introducing an internal
platform for communication between all employees inside the organization.
❖ Odoo Discuss makes communication easier through messages, notes, and chat.It increases
business productivity and transparency by promoting a convenient way of communicating.
❖ For formal and informal purposes you can use this module to chat with your friends and
colleagues in your company. This platform has enabled private communication as well as
group chats based on your interest
❖ You can easily share information, projects, files, prioritize tasks, and stay connected with
colleagues and partners throughout applications.
❖ Goto Discuss module and on the left side you will get the inbox messages, History
for chats , channels details and direct messages etc.
❖ For creating channel click on that ‘+’ icon and you can enter your channel name either
public or private in nature.
❖ A Public channel can be seen by everyone, while a Private one is only visible to
users invited to it.
❖ Click on settings icon to configure the channel.
❖ We can provide the description for the channel and under privacy tab you can specify who
other can follow this group.
❖ From members tab we will get the members allowed to this group and we can also add new
members by Add a line

❖ After creating channel you can invite people by clicking on that icon.you can also use
invite link to add people to the channel

❖ From group configuration we will get the newly added member to the this channel
from the tree view.

❖ By selecting Selected group of users we can add the group to the specified field.
❖ After creating channel you can invite people by clicking on that icon.you can also use
invite link to add people to the channel
❖ We can also set auto subscribe to the channel for specified groups and departments
of the company by specifying the group and department.
❖ After creating channel you can invite people by clicking on that icon.you can also use
invite link to add people to the channel
❖ To get members list click on that icon.And you will get the details with the
status.
❖ And also there is a provision to make audio and video call to the channel.This is how the
Odoo Discuss module works effectively to enable efficient communication between the
employees inside an organization.
❖ We can also see what colleagues are up to and how quickly they can respond to
messages by checking their Status.
❖ The status is shown on the left side of a contact’s name on Discuss sidebar and on the
Messaging menu.
❖ Airplane -out of the office
❖ Green - online
❖ Orange - away
❖ White - offline
❖ The first time you log in to your account, OdooBot sends you a message asking for permission
to receive desktop notifications to chats. If accepted, you receive push notifications to the
messages sent to you despite where you are in Odoo.
❖ You can set your Preferences and choose how you would like your notifications to be handled.
For that goto your my profile.
❖ By default, the field is set as Handle by Emails making messages, notes, and notifications
where you were mentioned or that you follow, to be sent through email. By choosing Handle in
Odoo, they are shown in the Inbox.
❖ By hovering on the messages we will get the options to react, set favourites, edit and delete for
the messages.
❖ For sending direct message click on the ‘+’ icon and type name start our messaging !
❖ Odoo discuss Module also allows us to mention a user within a chat or the chatter type @user-
name; to refer to a channel, type #channel-name.
❖ A notification is sent to the user mentioned either to his Inbox or through email, depending on
his settings.
