To record music, you need a digital audio workstation (DAW) on a computer connected to an audio interface and microphone. There are many music software and interface options ranging in price. The interface converts analog audio signals to digital for the computer and allows control of volume levels. Once the software is installed and interface connected via USB, you can load an instrumental track or record vocals in mono by pressing record. After finishing, the recording can be exported as a WAV or MP3 file.
