- 2. How many of you are hungry right now? Now imagine having to feel that way all of the time.
- 3. Hunger Facts As a result of hunger, six million children under the age of 5 die every year. 13.0 million of U.S. households were food insecure at some time during 2007. 104 million of U.S. households were food secure throughout 2007.
- 4. Facts Food secure—These households had access, at all times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members. In 2007, 36.2 million people lived in food-insecure households, including 12.4 million children. Of these individuals, 8.2 million adults and 3.7 million children lived in households with very low food security.
- 5. Facts 433 million people across the word are hungry. 16,000 children die every day from hunger related issues, 1 every 5 seconds. In 2005, 1.4 billion people lived below the international poverty line (less than $1.25 a day). 820 million people in the developing world are undernourished.
- 6. Facts In 2006 there were 9.7 million. 9 million people die worldwide each year due to mal-nutrition. 5 million of these people are children. There are one billion people that don’t even earn $1.00 a day.
- 7. Statistics Direct cost of hunger is estimated at 30 billion a year. 15 million children die each year from hunger. For the price of one missile, a school full of hungry children could eat lunch every day for 5 years. Every 3.6 seconds someone dies of hunger. Hunger is the most extreme form of poverty.
