- 2. 1 FINAL PRESENTATION GENERAL INFORMATION APPROACH The first idea of the design is come from the “Sunflower”. We developed the idea of how sunflower moves according to the direction of the natural light and integrated into a design. The idea of sunflower is not helped only for the form of the furniture but also gives the idea of which renewable energy source can be used in the design which is solar energy source. SCENARIO/CONCEPT: As the students in the Bilkent University campus, we do not have unity in the street furniture and do not have enough space. Most of the time people have to sit on a grass, stairs in front of FF Building or the parapets of the stairs. This is not very good in terms of design, ergonomic and health. The problems can be solved by the proposed design solutions. The furniture which is designed also brings the idea of the renewable and sustainable energy so that not only people can benefit from the furniture by using it, but also there will be transfer without any extra effort in the campus. Some furniture are designed and identified in details which are a lighting element with directional signage, a bench with planters and a litter bin, a shelter for bicycle, a telecommunication pole with a LCD screen for advertisements and information.

- 5. 4 STREET FURNITURE AT THE CAMPUS 1. A LIGHTING ELEMENT WITH DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE The chosen theme is Sunflower. That is the reason the shape of the lighting element is in the form of flower. The leaves of the flower are the moveable panels. The idea is when the Sun moves, the panels move accordingly. If there is any need of the light, the core of the flower is used for the lighting and the energy will be transferred into the electrical energy. It also gives the idea of sustainability. This element is the main element in the design that used as a variation. Also, the form of the lighting element is giving the idea of unity in the campus, so that the ones who used the street furniture can be easily understand the idea of the sunflower. MATERIALS: This is the material used in the core of the lighting element. (The lighting place.) Because it is lighting source, the color can be white or yellow depends on the preferred light and when the lights are turned off or on. (Daylight&Night Time) This is the material used in the pole of lighting element.

A BENCH A LITTER BIN The bench is the place where people can sit, get some rest, read books, chat with their friends and etc. The place is design in 2 sides so that more than 1-2 people can sit. For the activity of reading, there are also 2 lighting elements on both sides of the furniture, so that people can easily focus on the readings whether it is day time or nighttime. The bin of the furniture is not combined with the furniture because of health issues. The bin of this design is shaped accord,ng to the form of sunflower. The small leaves are the places where people can use leftover meals, so that the animals feed from there. (Especially birds and dogs.) MATERIALS: This is the materials used in the bench. We selected as a wood material so that people cannot feel the temperature changes.
- 7. 6 This is the material used for the bins. It also used in the lighting element so that it gives the idea of unity among the design elements. 3. A TELECOMUNICATION POLE WITH A LCD SCREEN FOR ADVERTISEMENT AND INFORMATION This is the place where people can take the information about the campus news, exhibitions, concerts, advertisements, academic information, map of the campus and etc. People can use a telecommunication pole by touchscreen surface. It also generates its own light by the help of the standing on it. (The forms of sunflower as shown in the photographs are the main elements which transform the renewable energy to the electrical energy. The leaves of the sunflower are moveable, so that it can be absorbed huge amount of natural light according to the place of the sun and convert into an electric energy which is light in that sense.). Also, the climatic change I considered. That’s why there is a protection frame around LCD screen. The bottom is important for any hazard come from the ground level (e.g.: Water Splash). On the other hand, the top is designed according to the weather protection. MATERIALS:
- 8. 7 The advertisement used in the LCD screen which is the poster of 3rd İstanbul Design Bienali as a title of “Biz İnsan Mıyız?” Because it is touchscreen the advertisement can be changed with one click. The steel texture is used in the LCD screens so that the climatic chance cannot have any huge impact on the touchscreen. 4. A SHELTER FOR BICYCLE In Bilkent University Campus, some of the students and instructors prefer to use bicycle for transportation. However, the campus does not have enough space for the bicycles. Most of the time people prefer to link their bicycles to the trees or star railings which are not very good in terms of visual communication. This is the reason why the design of a shelter for bicycle is needed for the campus. The first thing we did was questioning the basis of the place of bicycle such as how the bicycle is placed, what will be he relations of the bicycles and environment, how the shelter will be integrated into a design. First, we decided on the place of the where the bicycle put. (Front wheel) Then, we gave the space of spring in order to put more than one bicycle at the same time. Finally, we combined the shelter for bicycles with the telecommunication pole with a LCD Screen for Advertisement and information. MATERIAL:
- 9. 8 The steel texture is used in shelter of bicycles so that the climatic chance cannot have any huge impact on it. Also, the wheels cannot any hazard from the shelter.
