The bio-economy or IB projects are all about new technology, creative ideas and innovative ways of doing things. Yet, because of these ground-breaking approaches, what the industry needs more than ever is sound fundamental project execution. Unfortunately, as we have seen in the last decade, there are too many failed projects paved with brilliant ideas. Many of these projects were hindered by execution lacking in certain knowledge areas of the PMBOK 10. The PMBOK knowledge areas are universal for just about all projects. 2. Don’t industrial biotechnology projects have unique areas, which are vitally important, but are not covered by the PMBOK? The PMBOK knowledge areas do not specifically identify vitally important IB project execution issues such as confidentiality, safety, security, and change control. However, the table below shows how all of these issues align with the PMBOK knowledge area and suggests a table of contents for a typical IB project execution plan.
