• IBM’s statements regarding its plans, directions, and intent are subject to change or withdrawal
without notice at IBM’s sole discretion.
• Information regarding potential future products is intended to outline our general product direction
and it should not be relied on in making a purchasing decision.
• The information mentioned regarding potential future products is not a commitment, promise, or
legal obligation to deliver any material, code or functionality. Information about potential future
products may not be incorporated into any contract.
• The development, release, and timing of any future features or functionality described for our
products remains at our sole discretion.
Performance is based on measurements and projections using standard IBM benchmarks in a
controlled environment. The actual throughput or performance that any user will experience will vary
depending upon many factors, including considerations such as the amount of multiprogramming in the
user’s job stream, the I/O configuration, the storage configuration, and the workload processed.
Therefore, no assurance can be given that an individual user will achieve results similar to those stated
here.

Editor's Notes

  • #5: For those of you that have been around the workforce can see how mobile is changing within our organizations and the way we are working. We’ve pulled some stats to show some of these changes and it’s affect. For instance, according to the BondSurvey 80% of employees are using their own smartphones and devices at work. This is the driving force behind the Bring Your Own Device plans as well as the fact that our personal lives do come to work and we are still using those devices as a means to keep in touch around “non-work” content.
  • #6: The other major change is the fact that this year this study shows that the most popular place to start when getting online is moving to our smartphones. Many of us use our phones more than we realize and many times we are making online purchases requiring the access to the web, posting content in social tools requiring us to get on the internet and connect back in at work … you will begin to see this change even more. Especially as the power and capabilities are becoming so advanced many people are able to do a major portion of their work on these devices
  • #7: Given that our devices are so popular for accessing the web explains why this study supports the average user interacting with their phone more than 200 times a day! . Gone are the days of just using your phone to make a call or perhaps to receive a page! Not only do we go online, but we use geo location to check in, find friends, listen to music, watch video’s and more. This interaction activity directly relates again to the power of these devices and what an average user can do. This is no longer a consumer vs. business dimension these worlds are colliding.
  • #8: Yes I did have to shorten this slide to ensure I was able to count up all the zero’s but this shows how many text messages are received in a day. The other piece that goes hand in hand is the ways in which we communicate have changed. Those of us who are used to writing what I will refer to as a proper email … now we are short messages and acronyms hence the reason texting is faster. This will continue to sky rocket as more and more people use texting for both personal and professional usage and as the work force shifts with more and more millennial’s joining organizations.
  • #9: Social tools are also some of the most widely used applications on mobile devices when you combine these capabilities together and look at this from a business point of view we are seeing increases in how business perform and get work done. Not only does it help with the actual work activities but it also helps connect people better across geographies.
  • #10: When you think of all these stats and you reflect on your own usage this image probably hits home. Check out that desk a few years ago that was a high tech office! A big fax machine that might have also been a printer and / or a phone you all remember fax machines?! In addition we probably had a big monitor / desktop machine with a key board. Our rolodex, staplers for all those presentations we were printing or documents … the list goes on.
  • #11: Now contrast that to today …. Many of us can get by with a tiny laptop and our phones – and of course the sunglasses since we can work outside and on the go! Things have really changed and this has forced organizations to think different about the applications users need to have now there are more than ever and they are looking for ways to better manage those. There’s the advent of the cloud, bring your own devices to work vs. a company supplying them, using wifi everywhere … you can really see how these changes are impacting all of us. There are definitely pro’s and con’s – good we are accessible everywhere although it does cause the lines to be blurred between where business ends and your personal life begins.
  • #12: Since we are at Insight we thought it would be interesting to see the difference in how we all attended in the past … you’ll notice 2005 it’s the good ole days you went to an event you probably took notes in your notebook and / or on a big at the time we thought it was a small laptop. Now we are all about using our phones to take real-time pictures and posting those and / or tweeting and texting them. There is more interaction than ever before. This also becomes a great way to expand coverage for those that cannot attend when you think of real time streaming. Can you imagine what things will look like in another 8 years?
  • #13: Now that we’ve talked about the market and the changes being forced into organizations we wanted to give you some information about our solutions that will help users get work done.
  • #14: To drive us forward the strategy we are supporting when we are building our solutions and this maps to what you are seeing within the marketplace we believe it’s paramount to think about mobile hence this session you are in, the ability to access that information within a cloud environment, seamlessly integrated social components to help in connecting the workforce, using analytics to surface the right information at the right time all within a secure environment. See let’s talk about our solutions that showcase these strategies.
  • #15: The Enterprise Social Solutions – we are IBM so we call ourselves “ESS” … we provide a fully integrated collaborative experience. That experience includes Mail, Social, Meetings, Documents, Chat and of course mobile. All of these tools will allow you to change the way you work. We not only provide a rich web experience but we have a complimentary rich mobile environment of which we will show you in a few moments. This is available in deployment models of your choice and is built on an open architecture.
  • #16: We wanted to add this in as it speaks to the important of how we think of mobile. Our strategy for when we are building mobile experiences is to have an integration approach whether that is integration between our apps as you can pick and choose what you want to us – it of course includes security. Not only do we include security within our application but we also recognize many organizations are in need of integrating our solutions into their broader Mobile Device or Mobile Application Managements tools. The other key aspect for us although we would love if everyone was on the same phone, same OS and same version we know that’s not possible hence the reason we build with multiple platforms in mind such as iOS and Andriod. At the bottom you’ll see we provide native applications for each of our capabilities. I’m going to turn things over to Luis and he will show and talk to you more about the applications we provide.
