THE KEY OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR DIGITALLY ENABLED
LEARNING, AND WHAT APPROACHES TO ADOPT TO BUILD TEACHING STAFF'S
CONFIDENCE IN THEIR USE AND APPLICATION OF LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES
Introduction
Before Covid, The spread of the
COVID-19 pandemic brought a
drastic change globally to the way
we carried out activities in all
sectors of life but it also brought to
light that we can do more with
digital technologies in many
different ways including education
by expanding digital learning.
This gives the chance to look
for opportunities, to see beyond the
challenges, and to find approaches
to build confidence for those who
deliver teaching through digital
learning.
Digital Learning
Digital learning refers to the
integration of
computer technologies
and applications into
educational processes to support
and enhance teaching and
learning activities.
Digital technologies like:
learning management systems
(LMS) , cloud-based platforms,
ERPs, CRMs
virtual learning environments
(VLE), such as webinars or
online classrooms
online learning communities,
social networks/ social media
applications/ collaboration
tools
Smartphone technology/
mobile applications
Selecting E-learning Approach
Asynchronous online
learning is a self-paced
learning environment
Synchronous learning
allows learners to
interact with their
instructors and peers in
a virtual learning
environment,
Blended learning,
combines face-to-face
and online learning.
Mobile learning sends
learning materials to
smartphones or tablets
Gamification involves
the use of game
elements in the
learning process
Microlearning is all
about giving your
learners just bite-sized
modules of information
Virtual learning
practice and apply their
new knowledge and
skills in a simulated or
virtual environment.
Video-based learning,
uses videos to deliver
learning content.
A podcast uses digital
audio to inform
employees
Social learning is all
about learning through
social interactions and
collaborations.
