This paper discusses the virtualization of phasor measurement units (PMUs) and their integration with real-time power grid simulations for state estimation. It proposes a platform that utilizes openPMU and IEC61850-9-2 data to improve the accuracy of state estimators through hybrid simulations, allowing for comprehensive assessment and prototyping. The study highlights the benefits of using advanced PMU technology in modern power systems for effective monitoring and decision-making.
