What are the Accommodations?The most common accommodations you will see in your IEP are:Read AloudExtended timePreferential seatingComputerStudent marks in bookMultiple test sessionsTesting-separate room
Read AloudAs a student, you are able to have the test, quiz or other class materials read to you in a private setting.
Extended TimeExtra time to take a test or quizThis time is in addition to the time already set for the test or quiz.Example: Test time – 40 min; Extended time – 30 min; Total time: 70 min (1 hour 10 min)You must finish the test within 24 hours and not beyond the extended time you are allotted.  Otherwise, your test or quiz will be returned to your teacher
Preferential SeatingSeating that is necessary for you to get the most out of classExample:Sitting in the frontSitting near the teacherSitting away from windowsSitting away from the door
What Do These Accommodations Mean?Computer UseSometimes this accommodation is made so that a student can type papers or answers to test questions on the computerMark In Test BookAllows for the student to mark answers in the test book.  The answers can then be transferred onto an answer sheet or scan-tron by the student or the teacher.
Multiple Test SessionsThe student will be allowed additional class periods to take a test.This will be determined by the IEP team membersThis is NOT the same as extended time.
Testing-Separate Room*Separate Setting*A student can take their test or quiz in a separate room in an area that is suitable for the students’ testing purposeCan be small group (10 or less) or One on OneMost often small group
Where Do I Go From Here?Once you have the accommodations in place, it is your responsibility to use them.Your teacher will know the accommodations that are necessary but you need to SPEAK UP if those accommodations are not being met.Remember: Teachers are busy and they have A LOT of students, advocate for yourself to get the necessary help you need!!!!!
