The Jesuits are a Catholic religious order founded in 1540 with a mission to establish right relationships with God, others, and creation. They take vows of poverty, chastice, obedience, and are willing to accept any mission from the Pope. Jesuits operate in 112 nations conducting educational, pastoral, retreat, and social ministries. Though suppressed briefly in 1773, the Jesuits were restored in 1814 and have since grown rapidly, currently comprising the largest single religious order of men in the Catholic Church.
