- 2. Introduction Enterprise In this slide we’ll discuss the importance of picking policies in odoo. Warehouse picking is a crucial process for businesses to boost profitability and customer satisfaction despite rising operating costs. The choice of policy significantly impacts warehouse productivity, affecting factors like facility size, available resources, inventory, and order frequency.
- 3. Enterprise We can configure picking policies by moving to Configuration -> Settings. We can choose either Ship products as soon as available with back orders or Ship all products at once.

Enterprise Ship Products as Soon as Possible, with Backorders Customers who request larger quantities of products than what is currently in stock will benefit from the "Ship Products as Soon as Possible, with Backorders" setting policy. Customers can proceed with their orders by enabling this option and making sure the inventory supply is less than the specified quantity. Ship all products at once When a customer places an order for more products than what is currently in stock, the "Ship all products at once" option will hold up order processing until the stock is replenished.
- 5. Enterprise For the picking policy, Ship Products as Soon as Possible, with Backorders, we can go to Operation types in Configuration menu to configure the operation type with backorder.
- 6. Enterprise By clicking on New button, we can create a new operation type or by choosing the existing operation type, we can edit the configuration.
- 7. Enterprise In the delivery orders operation type, we can choose create backorder option as Ask, a feature that asks users if they want to backorder the remaining inventory.
- 8. Enterprise We can create a quotation and in that order, we can choose the product in the orderline with more than the quantity in hand for that product.
- 9. Enterprise After choosing the product with more quantity than in stock, we can confirm the quotation.
- 10. Enterprise Clicking on the delivery smart button, we can view the delivery details of this order.
- 11. Enterprise We can validate the transfer by clicking on the validate button. Since there are remaining quantities to deliver and the create backorder option we chose is ask for this operation type, a new pop-up window will be displayed to ask about the back orders.
- 12. Enterprise From this window, user can decide whether to create backorder or not.
- 13. Enterprise The delivery slip for this order can be viewed by downloading the delivery slip. It will display the details of the backorder.
- 14. Enterprise Since backorders are chosen, odoo will automatically create a transfer for the backorder in waiting stage.
- 15. Enterprise In the form view of the transfer for back order, we can see the origin for this transfer is a backorder from another transfer.
- 16. Enterprise Now, we can change the Create Back Order option to “Always” inside the Operation types Configuration form.
- 17. Enterprise Then create a sale order in the same way we created earlier, ie with more quantity demanded than in stock.
- 18. Enterprise When the “Always” option is chosen, Odoo will automatically create backorders for any remaining product quantities, making sure that only available quantities are verified and the rest of the products are in “Waiting” status as shown below.

- 21. Enterprise In the transfer even though the demanded quantity is more than the available quantity, the remaining quantities will be cancelled since we have chosen the create backorder option as never. So no transfers will be created for the remaining quantities.
