Promoting Personal Health & Hygiene among villagers  Our story of Change from Satya Bharti School, Sultangarh, Alwar, Rajasthan , Bharti Foundation The change we plan to bring about in the community : Promoting Personal Health & Hygiene among villagers
Bharti Foundation Bharti Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Bharti Group Companies. The Foundation aims to help underprivileged children and young people of our country realize their potential. Satya Bharti School Program The Satya Bharti School Program is the flagship program of Bharti Foundation. It aims to deliver free quality education to underprivileged children, with special focus on the girl child across rural India. The program goal is to establish 500 Primary and 50 Senior Schools reaching out to over 200,000 students The promise of this large scale program, through its operation, is to create a  replicable, scalable and holistic model  of quality education in rural India   Present Operational Status: Number of Schools Operational: 236 States of Operation: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh &  Tamil Nadu Number of Students Enrolled: Over 30,000 Introduction
Geographical Location : Sultangarh is located at 40 km from NH-8 and District  office of Bharti Foundation.  The village comes under Khundroth Panchayat. Total House Hold – 33 Total Population of Village -200 The village declared Below Poverty Line village by State Govt. on efforts of Bharti Foundation  and today each family is holding the BPL Card. Satya Bharti Govt. Primary School is the only School in the Village. Most of the population is migratory in nature and they are working as a Snake Charmers.  Transportation/ communication is not existing in village .  The Nearest Health Centre, bus stand, Bank, Post office & Police station is  Mandhan which is approx. 4-5 km form the village. The nearest market for village is Mandhan which is approx. 4-5 km form the village Hand pump is only the source of water but most of the time it does not work so that they have to fetch the water from 1-2km.  The most of families are living either in tent and  huts. About the Community
Cultural Background : Majority of the  population belongs to Hindu   community -Nath Community (Snake Charmer) They followed the most of the  Hindu rituals, but  they do not followed the Hindu Marriage & funeral Systems. Dominant Cast in Village is Sapera (Snake Charmer) The community earn their bread & butter by begging &  snakes Shows  The dressing style of community is long  Kurta & Dhoti for men and women dressing style is Ghagra & Odhni. They prefer to have non veg. food in a day  at least once  The community does not believe in family planning The community is migratory in nature They are the followers of Goga ji Mahraj About the Community
There are lots of problem in the village but personal hygiene  is one of the major problem. Due to unhygienic condition villagers faced many Health problem.  We ‘Felt’:
Total community is migratory in nature. They don't reside any where for a long time. Therefore the condition of hygiene and sanitation is very poor. Due to that our kids decided to make a remarkable change to initiate step to improve the personal health & hygiene of community people by counselling individuals, groups along with the nukad natak planned by them. We ‘Imagined’:
Organised  a meeting with community people to make them understand about the initiative of Satya Bharti School. Organised the rally in community . Make them aware about importance of Personal Hygiene in our Life. Conducted Street play in different location of  community on importance of Personal Hygiene. We ‘Did’:
We ‘Did’:
Make community people more aware about their personal Hygiene. People understand the importance of healthy life. They adopt the ways suggested by children and keep their community clean & Hygienic. Impact on Community:
Proud to be a part of this campaign and become change agents in the Understand the felt need of community and work on it which gives new learning to them . Children feel community. Staff members gained the  confidence to deal with community problems which is totally different from  daily class room teaching. They are curious to do such activity in near future and willing to do something different from  their daily routine work.  Impact on Us:
The teachers  realize that they have done something special which make real difference in the life of community people. The community people feel that they can improve their quality of life by adopting good habits.  Experience of Community Members & Teachers:
We will be in touch with community people and adopt the policy of reach every one and aware them about personal health & Hygiene. We will monitor their progress on weekly basis and call them in Parents Teachers meeting so that we can discuss with them. We will try to identify other community problem and prepare the action plan for the same.  The Road Ahead….. (in the next 3 months)
