What does this pilot entail? Facts about the pilot

Each participating school receives Netbooks for learners (± 27) Notebooks for teachers (5) School: desktop (mini server, wifi) + monitor Schools and equipment
Pre-pilot: January to June 2010 10 classes per country = 60 classes 5 teachers per class = 50 teachers per country  = 300 teachers involved Pilot: September 2010 to June 2011 50 classes per country = 300 classes  5 teachers per class  = 250 teachers per country  = 1500 teachers involved Timeline  On-going
Netbooks a new phenomenon  in educational setting Can netbooks  improve teaching and learning both inside and outside of schools ? How are they used in educational contexts: ・   in school vs. out of school use  ・   individual use vs. collaborative use  ・   educational use vs. leisure use   Netbook pilot evaluation framework

What is expected  from  the teachers?
Plan a pedagogical project where the teachers and the pupils use netbooks in an educational context Different possibilities :   2 or more teachers work together to create a cross-curricular project where pupils use netbooks across subjects  each teacher create their own pedagogical project A variety of contexts: use netbooks in school vs. at home individual use of netbooks vs. collaborative use  What is expected from teachers?
Existing digital learning resources  (e.g. reference material, science experiments, language learning material) Creating new pedagogical resources  (e.g. multimedia material, lesson plans) To connect to the school  Virtual Learning Environment To work with  Interactive White Boards To communicate  between schools and parents Examples of using netbooks in school

February 2010:  arrival of netbooks  Invitation to join the online community of practice  planning of the pedagogical project March, April, May 2010:  execution of the pedagogical project(s) participation in the online community of practice creation and documentation of pedagogical one-to-one scenarios End of May 2010:  questionnaire (teachers + parents), classroom observation, interview of support persons Timeline in the pre-pilot
