Creative process in a museum
WORKSHOP INSTRUCTION
Part I Sightseeing the exhibition
ROLE N°1: You are a museum visitor
We will give one Visitor Identification Card per group. Each ID card contains one
character.
Before the visit You have to describe the character by filling in the ID card.
During the visit You try to see the museum through the eyes of your group
character.
Beside sightseeing museum/exhibition, the visit will focus on one object – chosen by
a museum staff. You have to gather a basic information about the object. You then
describe the object from the perspective of Your visitor by filling the Object
Question Card.
ROLE N°2 : You are a museum consultant
You have just been hired as a consultant by the museum. You visit their collections
for the first time with the museum staff and you are trying to find out what the
museum really needs, you will try to know the personality of the museum. You write
3 words explaining the core goals of the museum (tagline) or write down the
baseline. You can use questions from Consultant Question Card.
Part II Creating the project
ROLE N°3: You are a Museum Project Manager
Your task is to prepare creative brief of the project. The brief should describe your
idea to attract the audience with the given object via IT tools. Fill the Briefing
Board.
ROLE N°4: You are a Designer Team
You are a designer studio who wish to answer the creative brief of the museum with
a good project. Our WAM speakers are now your mentors, they are available to
answer your questions. During the brainstorming fill the Project Board.
PART III Presenting the project
Introduce your project to the museum team (public presentation of the project by
each team in front of the other teams). You can present your project using i.e.:
video, drama playing, comics, stop-motion...
The presentation should focus on user experience.

Object name/title:
Note the basic informations about the object: who? when? where? how?....
List 10 questions the visitor could ask about the object
Describe the object in 10 keywords, from the perspective of the visitor (according to
ID card): what would he/she say about the object? What he/she likes/dislikes? e.t.c.

What do you want people to think of you?
What do you want people to remember from the
museum?
Who is your main audience now?
What audience you need to reach?
Write 3 words explaining the core goals of the museum
(tagline) or write down the baseline.

Briefing Board
The visitor:
o Who is your audience?
Task: transform your ID card (or the type of visitor given by museum
staff) into an Instagram video to introduce us your visitor.
The content:
o What is our content (object)?
o What is the most important in it?
o What could be the most important for the audience?
o What makes the content (object) so special?
Task: describe the object you saw in the museum in one tweet
(#wam14)
The goal:
o Why do we want to attract visitors with the object?
o What is the main goal we want to reach by connecting this visitor
to this object?
o What we want visitors do/think/reflect/learn around the object?
Task: describe the goal in one tweet (#wam14)
The sketch of the idea:
o How do we want to achieve the goal?
o What user experience do we need?
o What type of IT/medias/channels we want to use?
Task: answer to the 3 questions with three tweets (#wam14)

Project advantages:

User experience:
o What does the visitor do?
o What emotions does he/she have?
o What knowledge/reflections does he/she have?
Explain the user experience with one video / comic / stop-motion /
dramplaying.
