Calm Down … You can do this … Take a deep breath Gather your wits It is time to make a plan

Other Instructors? Are you the only one who will teach the class Collaborate to ensure parity between the courses
Taught Class Before? Course materials Lectures PowerPoint presentations Handouts Tests Check with other instructors
Interactive Instruction Brainstorming Role playing Cooperative learning Interviews Problem solving Discussion
Brainstorming Brainstorming rules Quantity, not quality Criticism is not allowed Play off of other learner’s ideas Do not censor ideas Avoid discussion at this point

Role Playing Students take on another identity, either made-up or real When ideas are generated by a “nameless” person, there is less embarrassment  Allows students to view problems from unusual viewpoints Post anonymously  “ Shy” learners contribute more
Cooperative Learning Asynchronous discussion  Group work More communication between instructor and student and between students as well Students develop social and team skills
Interviews Help students learn about each other  Show learners that they can be helpful resources for each other Helpful in developing communication skills
Problem Solving Communicate, listen, brainstorm, evaluate options, identify good options, agree on solution Give learners “real-world” problems to work Competitive or collaborative  Give problems to groups to work or individually and then share problems solving methods
