 The main objective of an interview is to get to see if
you have the relevant skills, qualifications,
experience and attitude that complement the role.
 Your work is to show how your
skills,qualifications,experience and overall
understanding of the role will complement the role.

 Is your experience relevant to the role?
 Are you a natural fit?
 Do you complement the role?
 Are you going to add value to the role?

 An interview is a great opportunity to sell yourself in
the market place
 All the work that you have out into your
achievements needs to be show cased.
 Be positive about an interview and learn from each
interview you go through
 Put yourself to the test.
 Get ready to show how you can add value to the
organization.
 You have been shortlisted for an interview, which
means the prospective organization would like to
know more about you.
 Apart from your credentials, your attitude,

 In that first five minutes of the interview, the
interviewer will have noted many critical aspects. Your
appearance. Your grooming. Your handshake. Your
personal presence. Your eye contact. Your
articulation. And, most importantly, your personality.
 Notice that there is typically no mention of anything
related to your major, your coursework, your grades,
or even your work experience.
 That is what got you to the interview in the first place.
But it is the soft factors that will take you to the next
level.
 Most interviewers rate individuals highly who are able
to present themselves well in a face-to-face interview.
INTERVIEW CHECKLIST
 Hard copies of your
certifications
 A presentable official
folder carrying your
documentation(Solid
colours like black,
grey,brown or navy blue)
 Neatly pressed official
clothes that are preferably
solid in color including
shoes that are well
polished and clean.
 Neat hairstyle or haircut
that is not dramatic with
different colours-First
impression matters
 Original and copies of
your certifications,
including recommendation
letters and any
documentation that
complements your profile.
 Place them in an orderly
from the most recent to
the last.
 Well trimmed nails and
clean shaven chin.
 Subtle make-up, nail
polish,jewellery and
accessories.
 Subtle fragrance that is
not overpowering or

on the organization that
you are going to
interview for, including
the industry that they
are in.

your documentation and
get the right fonts

 Make sure you understand the type of interview that
will be conducted by your prospective employer.
 Is it face to face, phone,skype or written?
 Is it one-on-one, group or panel interview?
 What level of the interview is it?
 Is it a formal or informal interview?
 Pay attention to your language, including body
language, facial expressions, overall demeanor,
attitude, communication style
 Establish rapport
 Gather information
 Close
THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
 Establish rapport
 This is where the vital first impressions are formed.
You set the tone of the interview. Your verbal
articulation and vocabulary will be noted, especially
any variance, positive or negative, from the
standard. If you have done your interview homework
and have fully researched the company, the words
will flow smoothly. If not, it will show. This is where
your passion, your positive attitude, and your
confidence will establish the tone for the interview.
And this is the step during which you have the
opportunity to make your personal connection with
the interviewer.

 Gather information
Keep it honest. In the gathering information step,
the employer will be asking questions and reviewing
your answers against their critical success factors.
Some of the questions will be closed ended,others
will be open ended behavioral questions.
While preparation is important, your honesty and
sincerity in answering should be evident.

 If your interview was successful, there will usually be
an indication of future steps. You may be given
further company information which is reserved for
only the select few.
No matter what your view of the interview to this
point, it is important to personally close the interview
by establishing potential continuity of the process.
You need to be fully prepared for different
personality styles, different interview styles, and
different questions. You need to master your ability
to present the very best you.
