What is MEST 1?

• 2 hour written exam (Mon 13th May – AM)

• 50% of your AS Level

• 80 marks

• Two Sections:
    • A: four compulsory short answer questions
           • This includes viewing of a stimulus material
    • B: choice of one from two essay questions

What do we do in the
            exam?
• Section B: Cross Media Study


Music: You will investigate how music is presented across
the media, for example, in (audio- visual) broadcasting,
internet and portable electronic devices, newspapers and
specialist magazines.


You should study the production and reception of this
coverage including the ways in which audiences may
select, consume and respond to music products.
What is each question
            worth?
• Section A: (1 hour 15 minutes)
    • This includes 15 minutes viewing time

• This section is worth 48 marks


• Section B: (45 minutes)
• This section is worth 32 marks


• Total paper is worth 80 marks

• (FAIR) Form, Audience, Institution, Representation

• This structure will be used to analyse each of the
  three platforms

Homework - Media
            Debates
Select a current media debate and create a poster on the debate
• These could include:
    • Freedom and regulation of British press
    • VOD and the future of television
    • The impact of Web 2.0 on the creative industries

• The poster should:
    • Be presentable and eye catching
    • Outline the key issues of the debate
    • Provide a balanced overview of the debate



This needs to be completed by Mon 25th Feb
